A 12-year-old girl fought off a man who tried to pull her into his car on Monday morning in an attempted kidnapping while she was walking to a Santa Rosa elementary school, officials said.
The Santa Rosa Police Department said in a community alert that the suspect is a white male adult in his late 40s or early 50s and was driving an older black BMW, four-door sedan with no front license plate. Police described the suspect as being approximately 5 feet 8 inches, thin build and balding with a beard. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a tan shirt with an unknown emblem on the left side of the chest and torn blue jeans, police said.
Police responded to the incident at 8:30 a.m. on Calistoga Road near Piedmont Drive. Police said the suspect did a U-turn on Calistoga Road and pulled over to the east curb where the girl was walking. The suspect reportedly opened the front passenger door, threatened the victim and tried to pull her into the vehicle, police said.
The girl fought off the man and ran back home, police said. She was not injured.
The suspect was last seen driving north on Calistoga Road, police said.
Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the department immediately at (707) 528-5222. Police are also asking anyone living in the area of Calistoga Road and Piedmont Drive with surveillance cameras to check footage from Monday morning.
