Two policemen and the artist Lars Vilks, 75, have died after colliding head-on with a truck.
At 12 o’clock the police held a minute of silence throughout the country – and gathered on Stortorget in Malmö hundreds of colleagues.
– We are strong together and we can do most things. We have each other, says Petra Stenkula, police area manager in Malmö.
The deceased police officers have also been widely praised on social media.
Early on Sunday afternoon, two police officers and the artist Lars Vilks, 75, collided with a truck on the E4 outside Markaryd. All three died.
At 12.00 on Monday, thousands of police officers in Sweden held a minute of silence for their deceased colleagues. Hundreds gathered at Stortorget in Malmö.
– It is heavy and sad. It is a day for reflection and focus on our mission. But it is also a day when you have to be sad and be human. Not least for those who have lost their loved ones, says Petra Stenkula, chief of police in Malmö.
She also wants to direct a sharp appeal to her colleagues around the country.
– We are strong together and together we can do most things. We have each other. This is the ultimate price you can pay as a police officer, says Petra Stenkula.
Petra Stenkula also tells more about the deceased police officers – who they were.
– They are two experienced police officers, worked in personal protection for a long time. They were well trained, well educated and attended many events. They worked very close to Lars Vilks and came from an assignment and were on their way back to Skåne.
