Popcorn Time – “Pirate Netflix” closed after 8 years of operation. He lost to legal websites?

Popcorn Time – As reported by Bloomberg, Popcorn Time, a pirate website resembling Netflix movie and series rental, has been closed. The illegal part of the website’s operation was to use a torrenting system. In other words – it allowed to play video materials while downloading them. Although many other torrent clients do it, the Popcorn Time business model has made this service one of the most popular “services” of this type. A year after Popcorn Time was founded, in 2015, Netflix itself saw a real threat in the aforementioned service. Today, however, he does not have to worry about it anymore.

Popcorn Time, a pirate service resembling a Netflix movie and series rental, has been closed. The developers of the site did not give reasons.

Popcorn Time was established in 2014 and to the end it defended itself against anti-piracy authorities with the arguments that the website itself never stored “stolen” materials, but only offered links to computers around the world where These materials were there. When the website was first taking its steps, its developers emphasized that “the world of torrents existed long before Popcorn Time and will exist long after it”.
