The Premier League continues on with a parade of rescheduled fixtures as a result of the chaos surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. There are clubs up and down the top flight who have a lot of games to catch up on and one of them will take place this week, as Brentford prepare to play host to Manchester United in a showdown that we haven’t seen in a long, long time.
Brentford
Brentford may have tailed off ever so slightly since they made their way up to the Premier League, but they’re still in a pretty comfortable position with regards to the relegation battle. They’ve got a great mentality and a wonderful approach to the sport which, as we’ve already seen, can lead to some of the most exciting games in recent memory.
Team News
Raya, Goode and Dasilva are all out here through injury with Jeanvier also being absent. Zanka is a fitness doubt, Canos is expected to return and Onyeka is away on AFCON duty.
Manchester United
Manchester United are struggling and we don’t think that’s much of a stretch to say. They’re in the midst of a really strange identity crisis and while Ralf Rangnick wants to turn things around, it isn’t going to be that easy – or quick. Once we’re through the January transfer window, it’ll be interesting to see where they land as their push for the top four continues.
Team News
Martial isn’t expected to feature as questions persist regarding his future. Bailly is away on AFCON duty with the following players being listed as doubtful: Wan-Bissaka, Rashford, Ronaldo and Pogba.
Factors to Consider
- This is the first game between these sides since September 1975.
- Brentford have won two and lost four of their last six games.
- Man United have won three, drawn two and lost one of their last six games.
- Brentford have scored seven goals and conceded 12 in their last six games.
- Man United have scored eight goals and conceded five in their last six games.
Conclusion
Brentford have been able to catch a lot of teams off guard with their style this season which, given the fact that they haven’t played United yet, bodes well for them in this game. Still, the Red Devils were able to really get into a rhythm against Aston Villa in their last outing and if they can keep that up without collapsing, we think they’ll do enough to secure the away day win. Of course, that’s a big if.
