PUBG: New State’s Open Challenge is all set to go live in Korea next month

Krafton has just announced the launch of the first esports tournament for their battle royale PUBG: New State. It is set to be held in Korea next month, between February 5th and 19th. It’s called the New State Mobile Open Challenge and will feature a prize pool of over $250,000 USD, the largest the country has seen. It will see players battle it out exclusively in New State’s new BR: Extreme Mode, which launched a few days ago as part of PUBG New State’s January update.

PUBG’s New State Mobile Open Challenge is Krafton’s first tournament of the year, with more global events coming soon. With this competition, the goal is to build a cohesive community of skilled players who like a challenge and are ready to participate in contests. To qualify for the current event, players from Korea must have attained Gold Tier or higher during Season 1, which is currently ongoing. Registrations will be live until February 2nd, with the tournament matches beginning on February 5th.

BR: Extreme Mode is a game mode that only features in PUBG: New State and not its other iterations. It makes matches more high-paced and requires players to be on their feet at all times. The total number of players have been reduced to 64 instead of 100 with each round being limited to 20 minutes.

The matches take place on a smaller 4×4 randomly chosen area within the Troi map, upping the intensity by decreasing the area players can hide in. With less time on hand, survivors will begin each match with a P1911 handgun, a smoke grenade, 300 Drone Credits and fully charged boost meters. In the beginning, two Care Packages will also drop at random locations to give the daring players some high-end gear early on if they can survive the fight.

Moving onto the schedule, OpenQualifiers will be held online on February 5th, 6th, 12th, and 13th, Group Stages between February 15th to 18th at the IVEX Studio in Gwang-Myeong in South Korea, and finals on February 19th at the same venue. Eight teams will battle in each match with points being awarded on the basis of rank and kills.
