Putin seeks collaboration with Modi to promote Indian films in Russia ahead of BRICS Summit

Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his eagerness to collaborate with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to promote Indian films in Russia, highlighting their immense popularity.

Speaking before the BRICS Summit in Kazan, Putin praised Indian cinema as the “most popular” among foreign films in Russia. He emphasised Russia’s cultural ties with India, noting that Indian films are aired round-the-clock on a dedicated TV channel and frequently screened across the country.

During an interaction at his official residence, Putin hinted at the possibility of providing incentives for Indian filmmakers to shoot in Russia. He said that Russia would find “common ground” to support Indian films, indicating that further discussions with PM Modi on the cultural initiative would be forthcoming.

The Russian leader also discussed the BRICS Film Festival, noting that the Moscow International Film Festival had already started showcasing films from BRICS nations. He underscored Russia’s enthusiasm for collaborating with India on cinema and pharmaceutical ventures.

Besides cultural ties, Putin addressed the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, acknowledging PM Modi’s concerns and describing him as a “friend.”

While expressing gratitude for India’s interest in peace negotiations, Putin maintained that ending the conflict in Ukraine remains complex, particularly as NATO’s involvement prolongs the war.

Putin’s remarks come ahead of the 16th BRICS Summit, scheduled for October 22-23, where the two leaders are expected to meet.
