«Reaching the final is unbelievable, it will be marked in our lives»

The player of the national futsal team, Fábio Cecílio, acknowledged that the arrival of Portugal in the final of the World Cup is something «unbelievable» and something to save for the rest of your life. The team led by Jorge Braz fights for the title in an unprecedented way on Sunday, against Argentina, current holders of the title.

«I don’t think there are any words to describe what we are going through. We knew what we were coming for and of course this was game by game. Of course, reaching a final is unbelievable, because it will be imprinted on our lives. What I hope is that, at the end of this journey, we can be smiling, because for me this is the most important thing», said the player, who in 2021/2022 is back at Sp. Braga.

Regarding Argentina, Fábio Cecílio points to an “extremely difficult opponent”. “We’ve already faced them at the World Cup in Colombia. We know it’s not going to be an easy game, but now I think the focus should be on us, because that’s what led us to the final and now it’s about preparing well for this game, which is the final, to be at the best of our capabilities, to get the victory», he pointed out.

Portugal has five matches against Argentina, having won once, in 2010. It drew still on one occasion and lost in the other three, the last of them in the semi-finals of the 2016 World Cup in Colombia.

«It is a very mobile team, which has many options in individual and collective terms. They are very strict in what they do and also very aggressive. They are strong in one to one, they have an incredible reaction to the loss of the ball. We have to be above all that, because the most important thing is us and our game», expressed Cecílio, still talking about the marathon of emotions in the semi-finals, against Kazakhstan, which Portugal won in the penalty shoot-out.

«We know that the game has these things, we can be both winning and losing, but yesterday was a very good test for us. It was a psychological test that we had – to be winning until less than a minute to go – then we had a draw… we managed to get over it all. I think that was good for us because it made us grow. We know there are no easy games. We can never say that a game is decided in the first minutes and yesterday we had the example of that», he stressed.
