REACTION FROM EĞİTİM-SEN TO THE “REGISTRATION” DISCUSSION: Children with special needs also have the right to quality education

Education and Science Workers’ Union (Egitim-Sen) made a written statement regarding the ongoing debate over the allegations that a student was enrolled in Istanbul Kadıköy Anatolian High School even though he did not score.

Egit-Sen drew attention to the fact that the grievance caused by the registration and transfer system of the ministry on the right to education of children with special education needs is visible once again:

“While there are fundamental problems such as the right to equal education of children with special needs, Discussion reaches dimensions that will offend children and leads to the separation of parents, who have the right to receive scientific and qualified public education services. It is the Ministry of National Education.”

What happened?

Discussion in High School Entrance Examination n (LGS) started when a student with 405 points was placed in Kadıköy Anatolian High School with a base score of 455 with the decision of the Directorate of National Education Commission.

The school administration cited the health problem of the student who was enrolled in Kadıköy Anatolian High School with a base score of 455, despite getting 405 points. The administration stated that this student applied to the closest school, Kadıköy Anatolian High School, in order to benefit from the special education quota, and stated that his registration was made with the special education quota, in accordance with the regulation, with the decision of the commission.

To Diken The father of the speaking registered student stated that his child was registered as a transfer from another school in accordance with the regulations due to health problems, and that there is no other school close to his home with the high school qualifications his child has gained.

The father, who stated that his daughter’s information was shared and messages targeting the child were shared in the WhatsApp correspondence of the school family union, said that his daughter was very upset after seeing the posts on social media and that they had to take him to the hospital.

The Ministry of National Education announced that it had launched an investigation into the allegations.
