Rehabilitation of the Enrique Bourgoin water treatment plant in Mérida

In order to increase the supply of drinking water to the inhabitants of the Libertador municipality (Mérida), the Regional Executive initiated the comprehensive rehabilitation plan for the Dr. Enrique Bourgoin water treatment plant.

Together with the work teams of Aguas de Mérida, Corpoelec and the Department for Development and Public Services of the government, 660 m2 of hydrology have been waterproofed; thus, the common areas were also embellished, the wall enclosure was improved and the electrical and mechanical components were optimized, as indicated by Oswaldo Ferrer, president of Aguas de Mérida.

As for the vital liquid, reported that this water treatment plant, located in El Vallecito, is the one with the highest capacity in the jurisdiction as it distributes water to approximately “450,000 inhabitants,” Ferrer pointed out.

For his part, the governor of the state of Mérida, Jehyson Guzmán inspected the hydrology, where he delivered 320 m2 of asphalt blanket.

Guzmán stressed that it is of vital interest for the management of the regional and national government to strengthen the treatment of the vital liquid to make it drinkable.»The goal to be met in this hyd rological is to raise its capacity to 3,500 liters per second, that requires maintenance in each of the tanks, in the purification areas, in the chlorination system,” he said.

In reference to the provision of services in the municipalities of Alberto Adriani (El Vigía) and Sucre (Lagunillas); The Governor stressed that they require an intensive investment plan, strengthening, adaptation and modernization of the water purification, storage and distribution system.

He said that these populations have grown a lot so that the systems, which were designed more than 30 years ago, are no longer sufficient to satisfactorily serve the entire population.

In this sense, it was reported that large investment projects will be presented to the Federal Council of Government (CFG) to modernize and update the aqueducts of these state jurisdictions.
