Renown Health names president/CEO, after previous leader ousted

Renown Health named Dr. Brian Erling as its president and CEO, effective Nov. 14.

Erling has spent more than 20 years in healthcare leadership roles, most recently as CEO of Centura Health’s Penrose-St. Francis Health Services in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Previously, he was its chief medical officer and chief clinical officer. Before his posts at Centura, Erling was president of the Alliance Group, part of Nashville, Tennessee-based Envision Healthcare.

Dr. Thomas Graf, interim CEO at Reno, Nevada-based Renown, and Sy Johnson, interim president, will help Erling transition into his new position. Graf will continue as chief clinical and quality officer at Renown and Johnson will continue as chief operations officer and chief of staff.

Earlier this year, the Renown board fired Dr. Tony Slonim from his role as president and CEO, a position he held since 2014, following an investigation into unspecified concerns reportedly related to personnel matters. Slonim, previously with New Jersey’s Barnabas Health, joined Renown soon after a shakeup in management at the organization, replacing then-interim CEO Don Sibery.

Renown, as Nevada’s largest not-for-profit healthcare network, has 6,500 employees serving patients in Nevada and California. The organization includes two acute-care hospitals, a children’s hospital, a rehabilitation hospital, urgent care and insurance through Hometown Health.
