Review of Q Acoustics Concept 30 speakers. Comfortable shelves at a reasonable price

Pros

  • Nice look
  • Attractive price in the context of the solutions used and sound comfort
  • Pleasant style of Q Acoustics with a significantly firmer form
  • Also tolerates higher volume
  • A big step forward compared to Concept 20

Cons

  • Transparency still has its limits ( especially quietly)

Throughout their existence, the British Q Acoustics have not moved away from their original intention at the founding of 2006 – that is, to produce speakers that are accessible, aesthetically modern and listening-friendly, a modern version of the British, easy-to-listen hi -fi.

The (almost) basic model series 3050/305 certainly gained their greatest fame. 0i, in other words the topic of nice, non-conflicting and financially attractive models, but that is far from the end of their catalog. There are excellent models with up to high-end ambitions, such as the Concept 500. And somewhere in between is the new model line, which begins the shelf model Concept 30.

Appearance and construction

Goes a variation on the same design theme with a clearly recognizable company handwriting and, among other things, the development generation of the previous Concept 20 model. In contrast to the lower models, the Concept 30 also has a “panel in panel” with “tone in tone” color, where the inverters are recessed without visible screws; it is a 3 mm metal panel that provides better strength. It is an obvious effort to offer the most digestible aesthetics for ordinary households.

The back side also looks unusual and very nice – even though there is a classic bass reflex with a bass reflex at the top and a panel with terminals at the bottom, a nice reflex breath and even two pairs of large and very pleasant terminals make an excellent impression.

Although Concept 30 might seem like a pretty “done” box, there is more to them than they seem. The construction of the baffles is based on Gelcore technology, which has the task of suppressing high-frequency resonances of the walls. In practice, this means that the housing is made of two layers of woody material, separated from each other by a viscous layer, which also serves as a binder. However, vibration reduction measures are also in place – based mainly on the “floating” base of the Concept 300 models. The frequency switch PCB is mounted on legs above a metal plate mounted on springs at the bottom of the baffle. The transfer of energy to sensitive components is thus considerably limited.

Concept 30 gains additional strength points for the spacing between the side walls. These are said to be struts located in places where measurements have been found to be subject to low frequency resonances.

Concept 30 are relatively compact ( width 18 cm, height 28.4 cm and depth 31.9 cm), but at the same time it weighs a relatively clear 7.9 kg.

The tweeter consists mainly of a dome with a diameter of 2.5 cm – the inverter is enclosed in its own working chamber, which is again anchored in a “floating” system, which again minimizes the accuracy of unwanted energy into the speaker body.

The Tweeter is a tailor-made speaker just for the new Concept line, as well as the used midrange. It has a diameter of 12.5 cm and a classic conical shape, where the membrane is hung on a relatively distinctive corrugated rubber hinge.

Concept 30 have a specified frequency range of 54 – 30,000 Hz (-6 dB), a transient frequency of 2,400 Hz for a working volume of 7 liters. The nominal impedance is 6 ohms, although the manufacturer itself admits a drop to 3.9 ohms. You will find 87 dB / W / m for the sensitivity.
