Ronaldo remembers 97: «Romário tired me to take my place»

Owner of the Brazilian team for many years, Ronaldo Fenómeno was deceived by Romário to lower his performance and thus the left-footed player took his place.

The case dates back to 1997, during the World Cup America this year. And Ronaldo himself told the story.

«One day, suddenly, Romário said to himself: ‘Get ready, we’re going out tonight. Come with me and don’t worry…», began by telling the former Real Madrid forward, among others.

«We came back at five in the morning and in training he was dead. I realized that Romário was trying to tire me out to take my place», he added, in a conversation on social media with former teammates.

Ronaldo also recalled the 94 World Cup, in which he did not was used precisely because of the competition from Romário and Bebeto: «I learned a lot from them, they were an inspiration to me.»
