Russia is studying the possibility of deploying its military infrastructure in Cuba or Venezuela, reported the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Sergey Riabkov.
The official stressed that the possibility deploying militarily outside Europe “will depend on the actions of American colleagues.”
“I don’t want to confirm anything or rule anything out,” he said. «In the American style, the optionality of foreign and military policy is the cornerstone to ensure the powerful influence of that country in the world».
Riabkov stressed that «if things go completely in the direction of provoking Russia and further strengthening military pressure” on Moscow from Washington, President Vladimir Putin has reviewed what measures they can take in connection with the Russian Navy. “We do not want this, the diplomats must reach an agreement,” added the deputy minister.
The senior official stressed that “Russia is now the main opponent of NATO only because it strives to defend firmly and consistently their own interests and is concerned about their security” and reiterated that they should not be responsible for the movement of their troops within their own territory
Violation of autonomy
The Russian presidential spokesman, Dmitri Peskov, also expressed that NATO cannot say how Russia should manage its military component within its country .
“If NATO wants to dictate to us how and where we should move our Armed Forces in Russian territory, that is hardly possible, because we are talking about Russian territory. Russia does not move its Armed Forces through the territory of other States,” the official pointed out.
These claims were disclosed by the spokesman for the US Department of State, Ned Price, who insisted that “ those Russian troops must return to their barracks” and described their movement within Russia as unusual.
The American journalist, Matt Lee, questioned the pronouncement made by the United States and warned about the violation of the autonomy of States over their sovereignty. “I don’t think anyone is going to accept that… Why are you the ones who should tell the Russians where to house their troops?” highlighted the journalist, reports the news portal Fuser News
Security guarantees
The deputy foreign minister regretted that the United States and NATO they are willing to talk only about the issues of security guarantees that are convenient for them, since neither the US nor NATO are prepared “under any circumstances” to comply with Moscow’s key demands regarding their security, such as “the non-expansion of the NATO, the reduction of the infrastructure of the alliance and its return to the borders of 1997». “And, of course, they are not prepared for the legally binding guarantees of non-deployment of the relevant systems in the immediate vicinity of our borders,” he added.
Finally, the Deputy Foreign Minister, Given the indications of the movement of Russian troops within its borders, he responded with another question: «What are US troops, US planes, US ships doing thousands of kilometers from their bases?».
