Ferrari has confirmed that Carlos Sainz will receive the updated hybrid system used by Charles Leclerc in Russia for this weekend’s Turkish Grand Prix.
The engine change means that the Spaniard, who finished third in Sochi, will start from the back of the grid in Istanbul Park.
This decision was expected after Leclerc was the first to receive the new elements.
“As was the case for Charles Leclerc in Russia, Turkey Carlos Sainz will take an all-new powertrain equipped with the new hybrid system, “ said a statement from Ferrari.
“Therefore, he will start from the back of the grid and aim to come back up to try to score points.”
In addition, the director of the Scuderia, Mattia Binotto, will not be present this weekend. Once again, the Italian will ignore a trip but will keep a link from Maranello with his team, which will be led by Laurent Mekies, the sporting director. Binotto is to oversee important design milestones for 2022 F1.
