Samsung Health adds Medication Tracking feature

Samsung announced a new feature to further enhance its Health App. The new addition is a Medications Tracking feature.

As implied by the name, the new feature helps you track your prescription and over-the-counter medications and makes sure you don’t forget to take them.

Samsung claims that Medications Tracking will help users stick to their regular medicine intake by putting up reminders that can be “gentle” or “strong” based on the importance of the drug at hand and how time-sensitive it is.

The reminders are also intended for people who take numerous supplements for general well-being, thus in this case, a simple pop-up would suffice.

Samsung Health also offers some basic information on certain commonly used drugs. The app will display a general explanation, potential adverse effects, and potentially harmful interactions with other medications you may be taking. Furthermore, the app will warn you to avoid specific meals or drinks that may cause unpleasant effects when combined with your current medicine.

For example, if a user is taking the prescription medicine Simvastatin, Samsung Health will notify him or her that the drug has been related to dangerous side effects when coupled with grapefruit juice. Users can also record the form and color of their meds, making it easier to distinguish between the pills they’re taking. Dosage, time of consumption and other details can also be added to avoid any potential confusion.

The Medications tracking tool will first be available on the Samsung Health app in the United States later this week, as part of software updates.
