Sara Duterte tells supporters: I’ll finish last term as Davao City mayor

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte has announced that she plans to finish her final term before seeking a higher position.

In a post on Facebook, Duterte said it pains her not to be able to heed the call of her supporters, who have been urging her to run for the presidency.

“Masakit din para sa aking damdamin na sana’y magpaubaya sa mga kaibigan na hindi ko maibigay ang gusto ninyo,” she said.

The daughter of President Rodrigo Duterte has been leading opinion polls for the presidency for Eleksyon 2022, but earlier announced that she would not pursue higher office after her father declared his plan to run for vice president.

But last Saturday, President Duterte surprisingly announced his intention to retire from politics, with his longtime aide Sen. Bong Go filing his candidacy for vice president instead. The president later said that Sara would run for the highest office in tandem with Go.

But Mayor Duterte, who also filed her candidacy on Saturday for reelection, said the presidency was not necessary to be able to help the country.

“Gawin natin ang pagtulong sa kapwa sa araw-araw natin na pamumuhay,” she said.  — Jaemark Tordecilla, GMA News

The Two Tragedies of November 22nd

Politics On this day, Americans lament more than the tragic death of a young president; on this day, Americans lament the nihilism born from those who were incapable of accepting its senselessness. Sixty years ago, the assassination of JFK violently robbed the country of its chosen future and darkened it for a generation, along with

A nuanced debate around floating wind projects in the Mediterranean
