Daniel Albietz wants to become mayor of Riehen. The JUSO want to prevent that, for them Albietz is “unelectable”.
The Riehen candidate for the municipal presidency, Daniel Albietz, does not suit the Basel Young Socialists. You took a close look at the conservative center politician’s Facebook profile. “Wearing a mask leads to a loss of face,” Albietz posted in March, other posts are aimed at homosexual couples. «Mr. Albietz has a very difficult attitude when it comes to Corona and queerness. That’s what we complain about,” says Joris Fricker, Riehener board member of JUSO BS.
“Cheeky accusation”
First, JUSO published a blog post , urging the commoners not to support the alliance with Daniel Albietz. They are now going one step further on social media: they are spreading photo montages there that describe him as a “Schwurbler”.
What does Albietz say about this? “On the one hand, I think it’s a cheeky accusation, but I’m not surprised. I would have been surprised if everything had remained calm in this election campaign and if they hadn’t looked for something to blacken the existing ones,” said Daniel Albietz.
For JUSO, however, Daniel Albietz disqualified himself with his statements and was “unelectable”. They combine his posts with clown and vomit emojis and describe him as a Christian fundamentalist. But Joris Fricker doesn’t want to know that his work is mediocre or irrelevant. «The emojis show a little what position we take on the question. We can back everything up with facts, newspaper articles and screenshots. That’s why I think it’s very factual,” says Fricker.
Councilor Albietz doesn’t believe that his values are a disadvantage: “It’s not relevant to local politics and I find it tiring , if the JUSO prove that they can google. My opinions have always been openly communicated and clear. And maybe that’s why I’ve had successful elections in Riehen,” said the councilor. So there is currently a tough fight over who will inherit the municipal presidency in Riehen from non-party Hansjörg Wilde on February 6.
