Seventh Winter Games for Ammann – fourth squad for Cologna

Simon Ammann and Dario Cologna are the figureheads of Swiss winter sports, each with four Olympic victories. As expected, the top duo will be selected by Swiss Olympic for the Olympics in Beijing.

Swiss Olympic has 78 more on Tuesday Athletes selected for the Beijing Winter Olympics (February 4-20). Among them are two four-time Olympic champions, Simon Ammann and Dario Cologna and won gold on both the large and normal hill in Vancouver in 2010, is already contesting his seventh Winter Games. The 40-year-old from Toggenburg is part of the four-person Swiss ski jumping team, which is also joined by Killian Peier (third place at the 2019 World Championships), Gregor Deschwanden and Dominik Peter.

Cologna leads the Swiss cross-country team in China with five women and seven men so far. The retiring Grisons is taking part in the Winter Games for the fourth time. In his first three Olympic appearances, he always returned with at least one gold medal, in 2014 in Sochi even with two.

In addition to the men’s ice hockey team, Swiss Olympic also announced the selections in biathlon (3), figure skating (2), speed skating (2), freestyle skiing (12) and snowboarding (18). Other sports will follow by the beginning of next week, including alpine skiing. Further selections in biathlon, cross-country skiing, freestyle skiing and snowboarding are still pending.
