Singer-songwriter Manan Chowdhry, based in Gurugram writes in the language of understated but everlasting love on his third Hindi song, “O Meri Jaan.”
The single comes on the back of his 2022 debut solo release “Kyun” and “Khafa” from earlier this year. Chowdhry, who is also an entrepreneur with a startup called Koby’s, was originally part of rock bands in places like Pune, up until 2009.
While Chowdhry was on a hiatus for 13 years, he did occasionally put up his gentle acoustic covers of Bollywood and Indian pop songs. On “O Meri Jaan,” There’s a lush production value and simple singer-songwriter approach that draws from the strong vocal melodies of the likes of singer Mohit Chauhan.
Lyrically, Chowdhry writes about destined love. In the process of invoking his beloved, Chowdhry says that he’s inviting listeners to relive their own moments of connection to someone’s soul. He adds, “When you’ve been with someone for so long that you genuinely become one, that is when the words ‘I Love You’ seem to fall short in explaining what you feel. I think relationships are so much more than just love. I tend to live with this permanent fragrance of what is my relationship with my wife where at times all I do is smile.” The artist terms “O Meri Jaan” – released independently and made with singer-songwriter Harry Arora and composer Swarup Chattopadhyay – as the “most romantic” song he’s written.
With three songs now part of his catalog, Chowdhry is setting up more writing sessions with Arora as well as rock act The Yellow Diary’s Himonshu Parikh for songs slated to release in 2024.
