SuperSport United jumped to second on the DStv Premiership standings after a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Cape Town Spurs on Wednesday evening.

SuperSport handed Tanzanian defender Abdulrazack Hamza his debut in the line-up, Onismor Bhasera also made his first start of the season and Etiosa Ighodaro was recalled in the three changes after their loss to Chippa United.

Spurs, under caretaker coach Sean Connor, had a perfect start after Therlo Moosa gave them the lead in the first four minutes with a header from a cross by Mamelodi Sundowns loanee Luvuyo Phewa.

The Urban Warriors had the momentum after that as they continued to create chances as Khaya Mdecane and Moosa both came close with headers in the box.

Matsatsantsa only started to get into the game on the half-hour mark and Bradley Grobler eventually levelled matters 11 minutes before the interval with a headed effort from a cross by Lyle Lakay.

Gavin Hunt’s charges had the ascendancy towards the end of the first stanza but they could not create clear opportunities and the sides went to the half-time break level pegging.

United started the second stanza the stronger of the two sides as within five minutes Ighodaro forced a save out of goalkeeper Sam Ramsbottom with a header from a cross by Gamphani Lungu.

United continued to pressurize the home side and just after the hour-mark Ighodaro had another chance with a header from a cross by Hamza but his effort missed just wide.

Connor’s troops raised their game after that and with the encounter getting stretched in the last 15 minutes, Hunt made a double change for fresh legs, as Phathutshedzo Nange replaced Gape Moralo and Tendamudzimu Matodzi came on for Lungu.

United were more sharper in the last third as Grobler gave them the lead with three minutes left and got his brace with a strike in the box after a great pass from Terrence Dzvukamanja who had just come on.

Matsatsantsa managed to hold on in the end and moved up to second on the table with 16 points with the Urban Warriors lost their eighth consecutive game since the start of the season.
