Snl24 | Soweto Choir’s house music surprise!

Soweto Gospel Choir and DJ Groove Terminator have released two singles from their project History of House.

HOUSE music is often seen as music played only at parties. But this gospel group believes differently.

The Soweto Gospel Choir has released a house album titled History of House in August 2024. They’ve collaborated with renowned Australian DJ Groove Terminator and Grammy-winning producer, Latroit.

The choir’s Shimmy Jiyane said this is their first house album.

“We last recorded a single with DJ Ralph Gum,” Shimmy said.

He added that they’re happy about the release.

“We feel amazing and blessed because our group isn’t just a gospel group, but a versatile group of people, and we allow ourselves to do any genre of music.”

He mentioned that they are always trying something new.

“When we were proposed to do this album, we were happy and excited to do it because it’s out of our comfort zone. It’s also music for the world and DJs play it everywhere,” he said.

Shimmy said recording the album was a great experience and they are humbled.

“Yes, we’re a gospel group but at the same time we allow ourselves to be artists. We allow ourselves to do any genre. House music is inspirational, and is also gospel,” he said.

“We have to reflect on every genre and make music.”

Shimmy said fans should look out for their music.

“There’s a song called Good Life on the album. We remixed the song and sing it in isiZulu. People should look out for the song,” he added.
