Sofia Open 2020 champion Yannick Siner returned to the tournament with a victory

Last year’s champion Yannick Siner returned to Sofia Open with victory. In a match from the second round, the 20-year-old Italian defeated Egor Gerasimov (Belarus) 6-2, 7-6 (3), thus deserving to participate in the quarterfinals of the tournament.

Siner started the match at an exceptional level and after two breakthroughs, in the second and it turned out last eighth game, closed the first set 6-2. Gerasimov managed to equalize the game in the second half. Moreover, he tried the champion’s pass for a 5-4 lead and served for the set, but Sinner responded quickly – a rebreak and a new 5-5 draw. At 6-5 in his favor, Sinner missed two points with which he could close the match, after which a tiebreak was reached. In it, the Italian won with 7-3 points and sealed his place in the final eight.

His next opponent in Sofia will be James Duckworth (Australia), who previously defeated in two sets the Frenchman Benoit Per, chosen for “Mr. Sofia Open 2021”.
