A goal from Etiosa Ighodaro saw SuperSport United continue their undefeated run after three games in the DStv Premiership with a 1-0 victory over Cape Town City at the TUT Stadium in Pretoria on Friday.

The Pretoria side, who have two wins and a draw under their belt, are two points adrift of defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns, who top the log with nine points after the early rounds of the new season.

The Citizens had to settle for their first defeat of the season, as Ishodaro’s strike was the difference between the teams who each had five shots on target.

Meanwhile, Stellenbosch FC’s second-half goal blitz quashed Royal AM’s early hopes of avoiding a home defeat at the Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg in the other PSL clash of the night.

Hopewell Cele gave hosts Royal AM early hope with the opening goal in the 30th minute of the encounter, but Stellies responded in the second half with a goal from Dean van Rooyen in the 53rd minute.

Two strikes in quick succession from Jayden Adams and Iqraam Raynes in the 70th and 72nd minute, respectively, put the match to bed to give the Cape side the win.

Stellenbosch are third in the league standings above their west coast neighbours Cape Town City by virtue of a superior goal difference, while Royal AM, winless and with one point to their names, are in 14th.
