Spritpreise USA erwägen Aussetzung der Benzinsteuer
In den USA sind die Benzinpreise zuletzt deutlich gestiegen. Die Aussetzung der Benzinsteuer sei daher „ein ziemlich offensichtlicher“ Schritt.
Angesichts der hohen Inflation erwägen die US-Regierung von Präsident Joe Biden und ranghohe demokratische Abgeordnete eine Aussetzung der Benzinsteuer auf Bundesebene. Darüber werde diskutiert, sagte am Dienstag der Mehrheitsführer der Demokraten im Senat, Chuck Schumer.
Der Nationale Wirtschaftsrat des Präsidenten prüfe den Vorschlag, sagte ein Insider der Nachrichtenagentur Reuters. Das Präsidialamt erklärte auf Anfrage, man schließe keine Maßnahme aus. In der vergangenen Woche hatte eine Gruppe von Senatoren um Mark Kelly eine Aussetzung der Steuer bis Ende des Jahres vorgeschlagen. Dies sei „ein ziemlich offensichtlicher“ Schritt, sagte er.
In den USA kostet Benzin im Durchschnitt gegenwärtig 3,49 Dollar je Gallone (etwa 0,81 Euro pro Liter) nach 2,50 Dollar vor einem Jahr, wie aus Daten des Automobilverbandes AAA hervorgeht. Die vom Bund erhobene Steuer macht davon 18,4 US-Cent je Gallone aus. In den USA erheben der Bund und die Bundesstaaten ihre Steuern getrennt. Bei der Kongresswahl im November wird ein Drittel des Senats und das gesamte Repräsentantenhaus neu gewählt.
