A man in his 60s-70s has been taken to hospital after a fire in Bagarmossen in southern Stockholm.
He was found with stab wounds – and the police are also investigating arson.
– That person is not awake and talkable, says Daniel Wikdahl at the police.
Just before 1 pm on Tuesday, the police received an alarm about a fire in an apartment building in Bagarmossen in southern Stockholm.
– When we got there, it was a fully developed fire in a apartment. And in connection with the rescue work, a man was found in the apartment with stab wounds. He has been taken to hospital, says Stockholm police spokesman Per Fahlström.
The police stated that the man, who is in his 60s and 70s, was not talkable when he was taken to hospital. The damage situation is unclear.
Three stairwells have been evacuated
The police suspect that the fire was started, based on information from the fire site. They are investigating arson and attempted murder. The bomb squad has been called to the address, as there have been reports of explosions in connection with the fire.
But the police can not at present confirm that there was an explosion.
– Had it was something that we think has exploded, then it will be a different crime classification, says Per Fahlström.
A total of nine units from the rescue service were alerted to the scene.
Soon before 2 pm the fire was extinguished. Three stairwells had then been evacuated.
Police in yellow protective suits work inside the apartment. At present, the police can not comment on how the assassination attempt and the arson may be connected.
No one has been arrested.
