The State will compensate users of electric vehicles for the increase in tariffs of the Electric Mobility Network Management Entity (EGME), which is Mobi.e, determined by the regulator, causing the prices of charging to remain, announced this Thursday, in a statement, the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Action.
The EGME tariff set by the Regulatory Authority for Energy Services (ERSE) rises 79% from 1 January , to around 30 cents per charge, an increase contested by several agents in the sector.
Now, the Government indicates that “the Environmental Fund will finance electric car users , compensating them for the tariff increase determined by the Energy Services Regulatory Authority. With this support, end users will pay the same as in 2021”.
“This is support for an emerging sector, of small size, but crucial for Portugal to achieve the objectives to which it is linked. Therefore, in the current context of uncertainty in the evolution of the energy tariff in the electricity sector, it is important to maintain some stability in charging prices on the national electric mobility network, through support for electric vehicle users that helps to promote the adoption of this type of vehicle”, says the ministry led by João Pedro Matos Fernandes.
The Government explains that the tariff increase “will be compensated through the application of a discount, to appear on the invoices of electric vehicle users, paid by the Environmental Fund. In the amount of 0.2614 euros per charge , this support neutralizes the increase in tariffs, keeping this charge at the level applied in 2021. In other words, users of electric vehicles will pay the same amount next year as they paid this year”.
