WBC and WBO super bantamweight champion Stephen Fulton successfully defended his titles in a complete performance against Daniel Roman.

Super bantamweight boxing champion Stephen Fulton kept his undefeated record, thriving with a masterful performance against former champion Daniel Roman on Saturday, June 4, from The Armory in Minneapolis, MN.

Fulton (21-0, 8 KOs) notched his 21st victory and second title defense. Roman (29-4-1, 10 KOs) was a game opponent, but he seemed a step behind all night.

Before the fight, Fulton told FanSided that he was better than Roman inside the ring and out. Character outside the ring requires a subjective assessment, but it was clear that Fulton was the more complete boxer inside the ring.

Fulton won the fight moving backward for most of the contest. Roman tried to apply pressure, but Fulton’s fast hands scored, while Roman missed often.

Fulton’s jab was blindingly fast and kept Roman away for most of the bout. Roman had his moments but was unable to put together a consistent offense.

Stephen Fulton defended his super bantamweight titles against Daniel Roman and looks to become undisputed against Murodjon Akhmadaliev

Fulton’s stamina allowed him to dance around the ring while pumping his fists. He outworked and out-landed Roman.

The judges score the bout119-109 with two scores of 120-108 for Fulton. The scores were too wide and didn’t reflect the competitiveness of Roman. FanSided had it 117-111 for Fulton.

At 27 years old, Fulton’s career continues to move along smoothly. He told FanSided before the bout that he believes that a unification matchup with IBF and WBA champion Murodjon Akhmadaliev is achievable. The winner of the hypothetical bout would become the undisputed super bantamweight champion.

Roman is 32 years old and looked good enough to contend for another world title. He held the WBA and IBF belts once but may never become a champion again, considering the talent level within the division.

If Fulton doesn’t get Akhmadaliev next, he could move up to featherweight. He has options and proved that he’s one of the best boxers in the world.
