Steve Bruce was appointed at The Hawthorns on 3 February 2022.
This despite having indicated back in October 2021 he was very unlikely to take another management job, after the making a total mess at Newcastle United and walking away with a reported £8m pay-off so the new owners could get rid of him.
Just as is the case with the fortunes of Sunderland football club, as Newcastle United fans we are not fixated with Steve Bruce (or the Mackems).
It is simply a case of where from time to time you take a glance to see how they are getting on…
Where Steve Bruce is concerned, I was wondering what the West Brom fans were having to say about him.
Twenty days in the job now, the former NUFC Head Coach has taken the Baggies from fifth in the table to eleventh, only one point and one goal in four matches so far, six points off the play-offs and last night losing 2-1 at Middlesbrough.
Over nine months since Steve Bruce won a football match and you have to feel sorry for West Brom fans.
Especially when they saw Bruce insist on his son getting a job there as well, as one of his assistants.
Which will make it a double celebration in the Bruce household, when the inevitable sackings and pay-offs come along.
Funnily enough, all the pundits and journalists haven’t had much to say since West Brom started playing under Steve Bruce…
West Brom fans commenting via their West Brom Index message board:
‘We’ve just wasted another 6-12 months giving Bruce a contract when it was painfully obvious from his last 2 jobs that he’s an utter clown.
As I said on Saturday, sack him and play the under 23s for the remainder of the season.’
‘Has to go on Bruce for me this one.
Wilder went for it and then Bruce did nothing until we went from 1-0 up to 2-1 down, making subs in the 70-85 minute range.’
‘Bruce has taken us backwards. The players have no clear instructions or tactics. We are now conceding more and creating less. Nothing more to say.’
‘Bruce was really out thought and exposed by Wilder in the second half though, he was frozen.’
‘Definitely honeymoon over now for Steve Bruce and now on the downward slope for me.’
‘I’d happily see Bruce go tomorrow, another waste of time money and effort.’
‘I didn’t want Bruce, for me he was ‘meh’ appointment but I was prepared to give him to the end of the season, but I’m seriously worried already after just four games. His in game management doesn’t look good.’
‘Who decided that Wilder wasn’t for us? Shocking decision that tactically changed the game second half.’
‘I cannot believe that the coaching staff thought that 25 minute spell was accceptable in the second half.
Our coaching staff sat there and watched us get over run and only bothered to make any change once the game was pretty much over.’
‘Bruce may be a good man but we should have learned the lesson after Pardew.’
‘Bruce so far, has given the team nothing. No instructions, no shape, no tactics, no clear plan, just chaos’
‘I am very concerned with what I have seen tactically from Bruce so far. Seems we have gone backwards.’
‘No point posting as swearing not allowed.’
‘Wilder showed tonight and since he joined Boro why he was the right man for us in the summer . Val was a joke appointment and Bruce is a sticking plaster on a broken leg.’
