New York Attorney General Letitia James on Monday addressed former President Donald Trump, his daughter Ivanka and son Donald Jr. summons under penalty of perjury as part of an investigation into the business practices of the Trump Organization.
According to court documents, the Attorney General is demanding that the respondents testify and disclose documents “in connection with an investigation into the valuation of real estate owned and controlled” by the Trump Organization.
The prosecution accuses Trump, himself and two of his children, of underestimating the value of Trump Organization properties to pay lower taxes and overstating it when applying for loans.
In July, Trump’s company was accused by New York State authorities of tax fraud in the amount of PLN 900,000. dollars.
Two nearly three-year-long investigations into the Trump Organization are related, but not identical, and were conducted jointly by Letitia James and Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance.
A criminal investigation led by the district attorney’s office will now be overseen by Alvin Bragg, who took over as Vance on Saturday.
In December, Trump applied to a federal court to suspend the investigation of the New York Attorney General to prevent his and his family from being questioned. and to prevent James from being involved in civil or criminal proceedings against him or his businesses.
Accusing the Trump Organization could affect its relationship with banks and business partners and complicate the political future of Trump, who is considering running again in the US presidential election in 2024, commented Reuters.
Trump Organization manages a hundred and Donald Trump-owned businesses including hotels, golf courses, media, marketing and real estate businesses. When Trump was president of the United States, his sons, Donald Junior and Eric, managed the company, and Ivanka worked at her father’s company before taking office.
