Switzerland
The WTA 1000 tournament is for Jil Teichmann in Indian Wells already ended after the first appearance. The Swiss was defeated by the Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu.
After a bye in the 1st round, the number 39 in the world was defeated by Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu 5: 7, 1: 6, who were 22 positions lower.
After the 5: 5 in the first set, Teichmann gave up her serve three times in a row and fell 0: 4 in the second round. The 24-year-old left-hander received a total of six breaks – she only won 36 out of 77 points for her own service. At the beginning, Begu also wobbled on his own serve – the game began with four breaks. After that, however, she served strongly and after 96 minutes she used the first match point.
Teichmann had already lost the last duel against Begu at the 2020 French Open, back then in three sentences. In head-to-head, she is now 1: 2 behind. In the third round, the Zeeland woman would have met Olympic champion Belinda Bencic according to the paper draw. She had given forfait, however, because she had not yet sufficiently recovered from her knee injury, which she had suffered a week earlier in Chicago.
Raducanu out too
18-year-old Emma Raducanu is back on the ground with reality (WTA 22), who did not pass a set as a qualifier at the US Open in New York and defeated Stefanie Vögele and Bencic, among others. The British lost in the first game after the sensational triumph of Belarusian Alexandra Sasnowitsch (WTA 100) 2: 6, 4: 6, although she led 4: 2 in the second set.
«Alexandra is an experienced opponent. I had to adapt to the conditions, it was my first time at Indian Wells and she was better than me. She deserved to win. It’s a lesson for the future, “said Raducanu.
