The law, which is the strictest in the United States, prohibits abortion after the sixth week. This also applies if the pregnancy is the result of rape or incest.
Proponents of free abortion now fear that another lawsuit will put an end to a right that has has been constitutional since 1973.

Saturday’s march is the first major women’s march under Joe Biden’s rule. In Washington, thousands of people, most of them women, filled a space near the White House before the march.

Robin Horn tells Reuters that she had turned up to support women’s right to self-determined abortion.
– Even though I have been so lucky that I have never had to make that choice, there are many women who have had to. The authorities and men do not have anything they should have said when it comes to what we do with our bodies, says Horn.
It is the group Women’s March that stands behind Saturday’s selections. The same group gathered millions of protesters the day after former President Donald Trump was inaugurated as president in 2017.
Rachel O’Leary Carmona, one of the leaders in the Women’s March, says many women like her has grown up in the belief that abortion came to be legal and easily accessible.
– That it is now in danger of disappearing has been a wake-up call, sier Carmona.

The law that came into force in Texas means that it is now forbidden for women to terminate the pregnancy from “the moment you can hear heart sounds in the fetus”.
The limit is set for the sixth week, a time when many women are not even aware that they are pregnant.
The heart sound argument comes from abortion opponents. Medical experts, on the other hand, believe the term is strongly misleading, because a human embryo at week six is the size of a grain of rice.
The only exception to being granted an abortion after week six is if the pregnancy threatens the mother’s. life. The BBC writes that politicians in several other Republican states are considering introducing similar laws.
