People started reporting problems with the unavailability of services on Friday around 20:30. In the Czech Republic alone, there were several hundred reports; abroad, these numbers are even higher. In the US, for example, there are thousands of service unavailability reports in just five minutes.
In the case of Facebook, people most often complain that their web services aren’t working – more than half of users. About a third of people do not even have a mobile application.
Interestingly, however, the outage is not global. For many users in the Czech Republic, the services in question work without problems, but some do not even get well, while others do not work only some functions. For example, users complained that they could not send them GIFs via WhatsApp.
Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger also had the same outage on Thursday night. It lasted about an hour.
Biggest outage since 2008
The availability of the affected services, which all belong to Facebook’s portfolio, has been closely monitored since Monday’s megablackout, as the CNet server aptly named the situation. Facebook and other services were not available for more than six hours at the time, the biggest outage since 2008.
The mentioned services were unavailable due to incorrect configuration change, due to No devices could connect to the servers of the world’s largest social network via the Internet.
