The amount is probably unparalleled in a compensation case. Tesla must pay compensation of as much as 137 million dollars, around 1.2 billion kroner, for ignoring racist harassment and graffiti directed at an employee at the electric car manufacturer’s factory in Fremont in California, writes the news agency Bloomberg . According to the jury in the San Francisco court, he was subjected to a racist work environment. A law expert tells Bloomberg that this is probably the largest compensation ever paid in a single case. Tesla itself mentioned the case in a blog post published Monday night . A spokesman for the carmaker says that Tesla was “a different company in 2015 and 2016 than today”. The Diaz case is rare in the sense that Tesla usually resolves employee disputes through mediation. However, the company had to shell out one million dollars in May this year, in a similar case as this, Bloomberg writes. Bernard Alexander III, Diaz’s lawyer, however, stated that Tesla has shown “zero responsibility instead of zero tolerance”.
