Tesla’s new Referral Program gets you $750 off and free EAP for 3 months

Tesla’s Referral Program played a really important role as the company grew in scale (particularly during the Model 3 ramp). By giving Tesla owners a referral link, Telsla encourages word of mouth and gives credit to those who help others into a Tesla, often answering questions that would otherwise be a barrier to electric vehicle adoption.

The newly updated program launched today works as follows:

For the New Tesla Owner

If you buy a new Tesla, you should do so by following a referral link (like ours https://ts.la/jason45054) and this will get you A$750.00 off the vehicle’s price, along with 3 Months of Enhanced Autopilot.

EAP normally costs A$5,100 and includes Navigate on Autopilot, Auto Lane Change, Autopark, Summon and Smart Summon. Having access to an extended trial of this software upgrade is a great way to kick off your new vehicle ownership experience and really allows you to understand just how capable your car is.

Previously this offer was for Tesla credits that could be traded for free Supercharging. This new program is much better as you’ll get pretty far if you deploy the $750 saving to Supercharging or just charging in general (remembering much of your charging will occur at home, overnight when power is cheap). For some, this may even be an entire year’s worth of travelling in their new Tesla.

For the Referrer

For the person referring the new owner, you can now earn a massive 10,000 Credits for referring someone who buys either a Model 3 or Model Y in Australia.

Tesla Credits can now be spent in a number of ways.

Firstly you could purchase 1,500km of Supercharging for 3,000 credits.. or 500km for 1,500 credits. This makes credits worth the equivalent of 2 credits per km, or 3 credits per km respectively.

This means if we take the 10,000 per referral and divide it by the 2 credits per km, each referral is now worth 5,000km of Supercharging. This is a significant improvement on the previous referral program where 1,500km of Supercharign costs 3,000 credits and each referral earned just 2,500 credits.

To use referral credits, you simply jump into the Tesla mobile app and tap the Loot Box at the top (now renamed as the hypercube).

From here you can access Lifestyle products from the Tesla Store. There are a number of apparel items and Tesla Accessories to spend your credits on, but I will note, it’s not everything in the Tesla Store.

Personally, I’ve referred 129 people so far and had some referral credits waiting, so spent 800 on a new Tesla Umbrella, which normally costs A$85.00.

Perhaps the best deal is the Tesla Gen 3 Wall Charger which typically costs A$750.00 and is available via the referral program for just 8,000 credits. If you refer just one person, you could buy this and grab some Supercharging while you’re there.

While I’d really love to see Tesla offer referral credits to reduce the price of the Tesla Powerwall 2, I do like the revised referral program. I’d also love to see them add FSD to the list of things you can spend referral credits on.

Internationally, Tesla allows owners to earn referral credits for referring other Tesla products like Solar Roof and Solar Panels and in the US, they get 3 months of Full Self Driving. Because the US has FSD Beta available to them, the price of the FSD upgrade is $15,000. This includes Autosteer on city streets.
