Thane: Man mistakenly administered rabies vaccine instead of Covid-19; nurse suspended

A man was mistakenly administered rabies vaccine instead of Covid-19 vaccine at a health centre in Maharashtra’s Thane on Monday. The nurse, who had given the jab, has been suspended.

A nurse working for Thane Municipal Corporation was suspended on Tuesday for mistakenly administering anti-rabies vaccine (ARV) to a man who had come to get a Covid vaccination at a health centre.The incident took place on Monday at Aatkoneshwar Health Centre in Kalwa. A person, Rajkumar Yadav, had come to take the Covishield vaccine, but mistakenly went and sat in the queue where an ARV injection is administered.ALSO READ: HC seeks Centre’s reply on cancer patient’s plea for Covaxin as 2nd dose with 1st dose of CovishieldThe nurse, Kirti Popere, administered an ARV injection to Yadav without looking at his case paper.Once the incident came to light, Yadav was kept under observation and Popere was suspended from the health centre.In a statement issued by Thane Municipal Corporation, the administration said that it was Popere’s duty to check the case paper of the patient before administrating the vaccine.ALSO READ: ICMR bats for reopening of primary schools, Covid testing instead of temperature checksThe civic body said it cant be denied that the life of a person was put in danger due to her negligence. “Hence, as a disciplinary action, she has been placed under suspension and during this tenure, she will be kept at civic headquarters,” said the civic body.ALSO READ: Bharat Biotech completes trials for Covid vaccine for children under 18 years of age
