The ATP has finally spoken out

Novak Djokovic’s visa revocation was annulled by the Australian court today, after a five-day fight with the authorities of this country. The announcement of the ATP organization, which arrived only tonight, has been waiting for a long time.

The ATP fully respects the sacrifices made by the people of Australia since the start of the Kovid 19 pandemic and the strict entry measures that were in force. Complications we have seen in recent days regarding the entry of players into Australia have proven that a clearer understanding of the measures is needed, as well as clearer communication and enforcement of the rules.

During the trip to Melbourne it is clear that Novak Djokovic believed he had been granted the necessary medical exemption to be eligible for entry.A series of events culminating in Monday’s court hearing caused damage at all levels, including Novak’s condition and ability to prepare for AO. Medical exemptions for players are issued independently of the ATP, but our organization is in contact with the Tennis Association of Australia for better communication. We welcome the outcome of Monday’s trial and look forward to the great tennis woes ahead.

ATP will continue to promote and recommend vaccination for all players on the ATP tour – we believe that vaccines are crucial for our sport to function during a pandemic. It is based on scientific evidence and is in line with global travel guidelines. We are encouraged by the fact that 97% of competitors have been vaccinated before this year’s AO “, reads the official statement of the ATP.

Meanwhile, while waiting final decision on his stay and visa in Australia, Novak has scheduled his second training session at Rod Laver Arena. The training is scheduled for 3 pm local time, or 5 am Central European Time.
