The Boys Season 3 Trailer Reminds Us Just How Gory The Show Is

The Boys started with a splash–a splash of blood as the hero A-Train ran through, rather than around, protagonist Hughie’s girlfriend. Now, two full seasons later, the gore and violence of The Boys is more graphic than ever as we see in the brand new teaser trailer for Season 3. Beware spoilers for The Boys Season 2.

The Boys Season 3 debuts on Prime Video on June 3. The trailer, shown off by Amazon at Souby by Southwest, is full of blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moments, updating us on our favorite characters and giving us first looks at new ones.

The trailer begins with Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) staring into a mirror, his eyes glowing with powers imbued by Compound V. A-Train, once again a member of the Seven, has a brand-new costume and is already back to advertising new products. We get several glimpses of new characters, too. Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy, a send-up of Captain America, appears for a few seconds, as does Laurie Holden (The Walking Dead, The Americans) as Crimson Countess. In between these reintroductions are one bloody, gore-filled explosion after another.

When last we left The Boys, Billy had rescued his wife Becca from her life raising her and Homelander’s son in captivity. The rescue was short-lived, though, as her super-powered son Ryan, while trying to protect her from the superpowered Nazi known as Stormfront, accidentally struck her with his heat vision, leaving Billy as his sole parent. Ryan is taken from Billy by the CIA while Hughie takes a job working for the politician, Victoria Neuman, unaware that she is the murderous psychic who caused countless heads to explode throughout Season 2.

The Boys Season 3 debuts on June 3, and the first episode is titled Payback. Most of the primary cast members whose characters haven’t yet been exploded return, including Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, and more. Eric Kripke returns as showrunner, with Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and more producing.
