The Pride Parade trains through Gothenburg after a pandemic break

Göteborg

The easing of the restrictions came in the middle of West Pride week, and for the first time in two years, the pride parade can now march through Gothenburg during the festival’s climax.

On September 27, West Pride began with about 200 program points planned for the week.

On Saturday, the week reaches its peak with the Pride Parade, which after the abolished restrictions earlier this week could march with full force along the streets of Gothenburg.

– It feels absolutely wonderful to be able to welcome everyone to the festival, whether it is in physical form or digitally. To be able to go to the first real pride parade in Sweden since the entrance of the pandemic feels like a favor. The feeling of being able to manifest human rights together cannot be compared to anything else, Emma Gunterberg Sachs, operations manager for West Pride, has previously said in a statement.

During the weekend, Pride park to Eriksbergshallen, with a stage program led by Marika Carlsson and Edvin Törnblom on Saturday. From 5 pm, they will present acts such as Dotter, Omar Rudberg and Tove Styrke.

” Completely euphoric ” When GT reaches Emma Gunterberg Sachs on Saturday, she is standing in Bältespännarparken where the parade gathered after the train .

– The atmosphere is top notch, everyone who walks in the parade is completely euphoric. It was a very big and long parade so we are extremely happy about it, even though it has rained and been very bad weather, it has still been absolutely fantastic so far, she says.

That the restrictions were eased just this week, she comments as follows:

– It is absolutely fantastic, finally it feels like we are lucky on our side. It is so extremely important to be able to manifest human rights and create safe meeting places.

Maybe extra important now after the restrictions?

– Yes absolutely. There are many in the LGBTQI community who felt isolated and ill during the pandemic, so these safe places are extremely important now, says Emma Gunterberg Sachs.
