Slovakia is to provide them without rent. It should be valid for ten years. It then remains valid or can be terminated with one year’s notice.

The agreement is also intended to enable the drawing of funds in favor of the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic. Any infrastructure that they build from US resources will be the property of the Slovak Republic. The US military can use it as long as it needs to.

Secretary of Defense Jaroslav Naď (OĽANO) declared that the document fully respects the sovereignty of Slovakia. The interdepartmental comment procedure on the draft agreement ends on Tuesday.

Negotiations on a defense cooperation agreement with the United States have begun by the previous government. Ministry of Defense headed by Peter Gajdoš (SNS) then decided not to take part in them.
