What you need to know about the churchyard market design
The first edition took place, as a pilot project, in December 2021, in the courtyard of the Church „St. Nicolae ”-Turnișor from Sibiu. On Sunday, January 23, 2022, the flying market was organized again, this time at the Church of the Assumption in Șelimbăr, located right across from the town hall.
The initiative enjoyed a real stir, with over 20 local producers bringing goods to the improvised stalls in the courtyard of the church in Șelimbăr. Their offer ranged from a seasonal offer of fresh vegetables and fruits to dairy and cheese products obtained according to local recipes and more.
What one of the priests involved in the project said
”The project (…) has a social-philanthropic purpose, namely the support of the needy, the access of the elderly to fresh traditional products directly from the source, as well as the support of small producers “, explained on his personal Facebook page the parish priest from Șelimbăr, Fr. Ovidiu Ioan
What happens to the “churchyard market” project
According to one of the organizers, the discussions are now with four churches in Sibiu County, but the flying markets will be held successively.
”In two, the flying markets project is functional and we have discussions with two more parishes, that we want to do them successively, that is, not to be on a Sunday at two churches. Every Sunday at another church every month! ”He told agrointel.r o, Ionuț Diaconeasa.
