The wait for a new car can take up to 4 years

Due to the disrupted production of new cars, the second-hand car market is literally going crazy. Currently in the United States, used cars are sold even more expensive than brand new ones because consumers are reluctant to wait. In Europe, prices have also risen sharply as consumers cannot buy a new car – both because of delayed production and the rise in prices for new models.

It turns out that there are other problems – in Germany, for example, more than 15,000 already ordered and prepaid new cars are not delivered to buyers. In all of them, the term written in the client’s contract has already expired. Experts point out that before the chip crisis and the pandemic, such cases were few in number, but are now becoming a practice.

There is even a situation where manufacturers refuse to accept orders for some of their models. Mercedes-Benz, for example, no longer accepts applications for the G-Class, which is increasingly sought after by the brand’s customers. Last year, the SUV sold more than 41,000 units, a record in the model’s more than 40-year history.

Now, however, the manufacturer has announced that all previously ordered G-Class will be delivered to customers, but the deadline is extended to the end of 2024. And new orders will not be accepted .

Toyota, the world’s largest carmaker, is in a similar situation. The company warned its customers that the new Land Cruiser will be waiting for up to 4 years. Apart from the shortage of electronic components and the pandemic, the reason is the huge interest in the SUV.

The new generation of Toyota Land Cruiser 300 debuted last year and in the first week after the introduction of the model customers ordered over 20 000 pieces. And this is the whole circulation for last year. Interest in the model continues to grow and Toyota has admitted that it can not cope with the current conditions. Therefore, in some markets, if a customer now orders the model, he will receive his car no earlier than 2025.
