The winners of the Painting 2021 competition are known. This is them

The Painting competition presented names that can rightly be included among the most prominent talents of the current young generation of artists. Rita Koszorús, Ivana Mojšová and Év van Hettmer received the highest recognition from the international jury this time

Young Slovak talents

The VUB Foundation, which has been organizing the initiative for 16 years with the aim of bringing quality young art to the general public. The works of all 20 finalists are made available “live” through a free exhibition at the Nedbalka Gallery in Bratislava until November 7.

All works by registered painters underwent an independent evaluation by a four-member jury of renowned art experts. which this year met: the renowned Hungarian painter Pál Gerber, art historian and curator Andreas Hoffer from Austria, curator, writer and publicist within the Czech art scene Ondřej Horák and renowned painter and university teacher Ľudovít Hološka

In the first step, the jury selected the final twenty and then, based on a detailed assessment of the original paintings of the three winners of the Painting 2021 competition.

1. place

The winning painter of the 16th year of the Painting competition is based on the decision of experts Rita Koszorús. For her work schMERZbild FALL, she received not only a prestigious title and a valuable reference from renowned personalities, but also the highest reward from the VUB Foundation in the amount of 10,000 euros.

“The winner was impressed by her consistent and clearly defined program, which can be placed in a European context. The work is subtle in expression – inconspicuous, as if a little nostalgic – but surprisingly strong and extremely impressive. It convinces with its perfectly painted concept and technique. The abstract shapes shown evoke a specific world, objects that we know. Her work allows us to look at her from several angles, she offers dialogue. The winning image is distinctive, without poses and copying global or domestic trends, “, said Andreas Hoffer, chairman of the evaluation committee, after the results were announced.

2. place

The second position was occupied and Ivana Mojšová took the funds for her further professional growth in the amount of 6,500 euros. According to the jury, This is a painting of triumphal photography by David Chancellor is an extraordinary visual experience – not only in a combination of colors, but also a composition exhibited on almost abstract parts in contrast with a strong figural motif.

The painting is also fascinating with its ironic gesture – the artist portrayed herself as the curator’s hunter with her self-portrait. The word curator is clearly written in the antelope’s eye.

3. Place

In third place, which receives a financial reward of EUR 3 500, was Év van Hettmer with his work Lemonade. She is an author who has been among the three awarded finalists for the third time in a row. At the same time, the author demonstrates a refined artistic opinion and technique, although she seems easy in expression.

According to the jury’s representatives, the painter does not copy anyone, and despite all her mistakes, which she is not afraid to show, her work deserves full support and recognition.

“We are glad that after last year’s break, we were able to hand over the award to the winners of Painting again in person, surrounded by the works of all finalists in their full size and style. Revealing the talents of the new generation of painters and showing them the art of the world – this is our unchanging purpose, which is gaining more and more importance in the context of today, “he said during a ceremonial meeting with finalists and jurors Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the VUB Foundation Alexander Resch. in accordance with current security measures, it can view the works of all twenty finalists (in alphabetical order): Ján Bátorek, Anna Mária Beňová, Dominika Brečková, Denisa Dováľová, Lucia Dunajová, Roman Ďurček, Juraj Ďuriš, Oskar Felber, Marek Jarotta, Beáta Kočner Bencová, Rita Koszorús, Ivana Mojšová, Michaela Murínová, Mikaela Mia Papp, Miroslav Sandanus, Denisa Slavkovská, Simona Štulerová, Michal Turkovič, Év van Hettmer and Kristína Záhorová. The exhibition is open from October 1 to November 7, 2021.
