These are the TCL 20 Y and TCL 205: dirt cheap Android smartphones

TCL has presented two very cheap smartphones in the form of the 20 Y and 205. In this article we discuss the most important features of the devices with you.

TCL 20 Y officially announced

The Chinese company TCL comes with two new Android phones. First of all, it concerns the TCL 20 Y, a smartphone with a 6.52 inch screen (with an HD resolution) and a triple camera on the back. The 48 megapixel main camera should take sharp pictures, while the 2 megapixel depth sensor helps to capture portrait photos. The 2 megapixel macro camera can take pictures from very close by.

Under the hood is an octacore processor and 4GB of RAM. There is also 64GB of storage space, which is relatively little in 2021. With most Android smartphones we now see at least 128GB of storage. Furthermore, the TCL 20 Y has a 4000 mAh battery, plastic housing and micro USB connection. However, the storage can be expanded with a micro SD memory card.

TCL 205: cheap Android Go smartphone

Looking at the TCL 205, it is especially noticeable that the phone runs on

Android 11 (Go). This is a special version of the mobile operating system aimed at devices with less powerful hardware. The specifications of the TCL 205 are therefore not impressive: under the hood is a simple octacore processor with only 2GB RAM and 32GB storage space. The screen is 6.22 inches large and an HD resolution, so everything looks reasonable screen.

In addition, the TCL 205 is equipped with a 13 megapixel main camera and 2 megapixel depth sensor. The device makes selfies with the 5 megapixel front camera, where the screen – when necessary – is used as a flash. Finally, the cheap TCL smartphone has a 4000 mAh battery and facial recognition for unlocking.

TCL 20 Y and 205 release and price

TCL announces that both smartphones will cost less than 150 euros. For the TCL 20 Y, which appears in two colors (black and blue), you pay 139 euros. The TCL 205 (grey and blue) is with a suggested retail price of 99 euros a few tens cheaper. Both smartphones are from the end of October available in the Netherlands.
