Unknown people poured cement on the roots of four trees, which are planted in arboriculture in the center of Thessaloniki. The trees are located on Keramopoulou Street, at the junction with Agia Sofia Square, while the Deputy Mayor for the Environment of the central municipality was informed about the incident on Thursday, after complaints from locals.
The responsible deputy mayor, Socrates Dimitriadis, pointed out to APE-MPE that the services of the Municipality of Thessaloniki will go to the spot tomorrow morning in order to break the pieces of cement and “release” the trees, while at the same time the culprits will be sought. .
“Someone or some unconscious, for reasons we do not know, decided to throw cement at the roots of the trees. They covered the soil so that the trees could not grow. We will look for the culprits “, said Mr. Dimitriadis, stating that until today in different parts of the city have been registered about 150 tree-lined trees that have been cemented, with the Deputy Mayor for Environment breaking the cement.
“In the past, a road where strangers went and cemented about 30-35 trees was Olympou Street”, added the deputy mayor. He added, however, that “apart from the cement, we have recorded other tragic incidents as a service. Some threw coarse salt to dry the plane trees in Nea Paralia and others completely uprooted the trees we had planted in Tsimiski “.
