The Sundance Film Festival will only be held virtually this year , the organizers announced on Wednesday.
Variety.com recalled previous plans to hold an independent film pattern in Park City, Utah from January 20-30. As in last year’s solution, in addition to the screenings, the productions would have been made available virtually to those who could not travel there in person.
the festival cannot be held in this hybrid form this year: due to the new wave of the coronavirus epidemic, neither screenings nor public meetings will be held in person for the public. However, they added: “The audience can still experience the charm and energy of the festival this year.”
The film directed by László Csuja and Anna Nemes, the film Szelíd, will also be shown in the competition program of the Sundance Film Festival. The film, starring Eszter Csonka, will be the first Hungarian film to compete at the American festival
Due to the recent pandemic the Grammy Awards, the Palm Springs International Film Festival, the American Film Academy’s Annual Governor’s Awards, and the planned Critics Choice Awards
were also canceled. Sundance came out with a hybrid release in 2021: in addition to the virtual program, screenings were held in some cinemas across the country. Tabitha Jackson, the festival’s director after the event, said at the time that the idea of retaining this format was being addressed due to the success of the hybrid format, and in particular reaching out to a wider audience.
