Former Italian footballer Marco Materazzi shared French Lilian Thuram’s position against widespread racism, but left a remark to the Frenchman’s statements, referring to when the two faced each other as players.
On Thursday, Lilian Thuram participated in the event panels Festival dello Sport, from the newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, asking white players to take a stand against racism and not to remain “silent” about the matter.
On Friday, Materazzi appeared at the same event to speak and was strong in words in response to Thuram.
«I agree with Thuram, I’m against racism, but I never saw Thuram leave the field when they sang to me: ‘Materazzi, son of a’», shot the former Italian centre-back.
The two players have faced each other almost a dozen times throughout their career, the last one in the 2006 World Cup final, won by Itál I was going to France.
