Tinubu Re-Appoints Sacked FCCPC Chairman, Seeks Senate Confirmation

News Investigators/ President Bola Tinubu has reappointed Babatunde Irukera as the Chairman of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission and sought the Senate’s confirmation.

President Tinubu had last December sacked Mr. Irukera as the Chairman of the FCCPC alongside some chief executive of government parastatals.

Presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale had said the sack was “in conformity with plans to restructure and reposition critical agencies of the Federal Government towards protecting the rights of Nigerian consumers and providing a strong basis for enhanced contributions to the nation’s economy by key growth-enabling institutions.”

However, Mr. Tinubu, in a letter read at the resumed sitting of the Senate Tuesday by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, sought the Senate confirmation of Mr. Irukera as the FCCPC boss.

Mr. Tinubu also sought the confirmation of Oluwole Andama as the Executive Director of the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund in the Nigerian Midstream, Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority.

The Senate president referred the request to the Senate Committee of the Whole for consideration, while it referred the request for Mr. Andaman to the Senate Committee on Gas and Downstream.

The Senate thereafter dissolved into a closed-door session to discuss urgent matters of national importance, which according to Mr. Akpabio has to do with the nation’s security.
