Tobin Heath’s late equalizer helps Arsenal snap winless run

Tobin Heath had to wait five months to celebrate her first league goal of the Women’s Super League season, but the veteran winger’s finish couldn’t have come at a bigger time for the club.

Heath came off the bench and delivered the equalizing goal for Arsenal in a 1-1 road draw with Manchester City. It was only Heath’s second goal of the season in all competitions and her first since October 2021.

The Lady Gunners were staring down a fourth-straight defeat in all competitions, but Heath came off the bench and played the hero for Jonas Eidevall’s side. Heath delivered the deciding moment for Arsenal in the 92nd minute, hitting a low drive from inside the box into the bottom-right corner.

Arsenal would hang on for an important road point in its quest for the WSL title, moving two points clear of second place Manchester United. Heath also delivered a match-high three tackles and won four of her six individual duels, proving a spark off the bench at the Manchester City Academy Stadium.

The 33-year-old has struggled for minutes this season as injuries have previously forced Heath to the sidelines. Heath only has four league appearances this campaign, but should have confidence after notching the equalizer on Sunday.

Arsenal will resume league play on Thursday against Brighton & Hove Albion before hosting London City Lionesses in the FA Cup.
