Trade talks are postponed after submarine schism

A long-planned round of EU-Australia trade talks is postponed for a month, in response to Canberra’s decision to conclude a submarine agreement with France.

Australia announced last month that it concludes a security pact with the United States and the United Kingdom, and that it has also agreed on a submarine deal with the Americans. The agreement means that France loses a submarine agreement worth around SEK 350 billion. The decision led to a diplomatic crisis between, among others, France and Australia, and now the EU seems to have joined its member.
