Trial of students detained by the PSP at the University of Coimbra postponed

The two students who were detained by the PSP, for injuries and threats to agents, at dawn last Saturday, in the University of Coimbra area ( UC) saw the presentation to the criminal investigation judge, scheduled for this afternoon at the Palace of Justice, to be postponed due to the absence of one of the defendants. The 24-year-olds claim they were beaten by the police.

The students of Philosophy, both 24 years old, will respond by resistance, threats and coercion to agents of authority. Defendants were constituted and should have been present this afternoon the competent judicial authority for the first interrogation, however the session was postponed to the next October 19th.

According to Coimbra News (NDC) reported, Coimbra PSP agents and a group of 10 university students were involved in contempt around 03:30 on Saturday. The police made two arrests for injuries and threats, noting that one of the students acted “aggressively” and that during transport to the police station and “already inside the police facilities, he maintained the same aggressive posture and inappropriate conduct with threats and insults.”

The students refute these accusations and accuse the PSP of “beating” and “excessive use of violence”. To NDC Pedro Costa, an Anthropology student who was in the group, reports that one of his colleagues was “kicked in the head and in the back” by five agents “who were twice his size”, in addition to being beaten “with batons all over his body. and on his head” which caused him “several bruises and open wounds.” ” and filed a complaint with the Coimbra PSP. In addition, he and other members of the group filed complaints with the General Inspection of Internal Administration, which acts as an external control entity for acts carried out by elements of the security forces and services or other bodies under the Ministry of Internal Administration. .
